People are often surprised by how long the first day takes. We show up, and for several hours nothing looks like painting. That is the part of the job that decides whether the finish still looks right in five years.
Everything Gets Covered
Furniture moves to the center of the room or out of it. Floors get covered wall to wall, not just in the middle. Vents, switch plates, and hardware come off and go in a labeled bag so nothing gets lost and nothing gets painted that should not be.
Patch, Then Sand
Nail pops, drywall dings, and old anchor holes get filled and sanded flush. Glossy trim gets scuffed so the new coat has something to grab. On older Rochester homes we also check for chalking and loose paint around windows, where moisture tends to work in first.
Prime Where It Matters
- Patches and bare drywall, so they do not flash through the finish coat
- Stains and water marks, with a blocking primer rather than extra color coats
- Any dramatic color change, where a tinted primer saves a coat later
Then the Paint
Cut lines by hand, roll in consistent sections, and keep a wet edge. Two coats on walls unless the surface says otherwise. At the end of the day the room is put back together, not left as a job site.
If you want to see what prep looks like on your own walls, we will come out and walk through it with you.
