When to Paint Your Home’s Exterior in Western New York

The window here is shorter than people think, and the calendar is not the thing to watch.

In Western New York the practical exterior season runs from late spring into early fall. Inside that window, what matters is not the date but the surface: paint needs a dry substrate, moderate temperatures, and enough hours of daylight to cure before overnight dew settles.

Watch the Surface, Not the Forecast

A sunny 55-degree afternoon can still leave siding too cold to film properly, especially on the north face of a house. We work the sides of a home in an order that follows the sun, and stop early enough that the last coat is not curing in damp evening air.

Signs It Should Not Wait

  • Paint peeling in sheets rather than flaking at edges
  • Bare wood showing on trim, fascia, or window sills
  • Chalking so heavy it comes off on your hand
  • Caulk joints opened up around windows and doors

Book the Prep, Not Just the Paint

Exterior work here is mostly power washing, scraping, priming, and caulking. If your siding is at the stage above, getting on the schedule early in the season leaves room to do that prep without rushing the finish.

Not sure where your house stands? We will take a look and tell you honestly whether it can wait a year.
